When it comes to discussions revolving around desserts, there is always a conversation to be had about chocolate. This comes as no surprise as chocolate has been a favourite treat for centuries, and since then, many brands and variations have been made to cater to everyone’s unique taste buds. Regardless of which you prefer among milk, dark, or white, or whether you’d pick chocolates with nuts or chocolates with raisins (or just plain chocolate), we’ll always share one thing in common: our love for chocolate.
Sure, you might have tried out every local and exported chocolate that there is, but the question is: how well do you know about their histories and backgrounds? Get to know more about them as we go LOCO FOR CHOCO: FACTS ABOUT ALL THINGS CHOCOLATE!
FACT #1: All Things Chocolate Bunny
To some religions, a rabbit giving birth to a big litter of kittens (fun fact: baby rabbits are called ‘kittens’ too!) signifies rebirth and fertility. Thus, rabbits have become a popular symbol during a certain religious occasion and are commonly made into chocolate statues of all sizes. While you may be familiar with the small ones that are handed out to children during egg hunts, did you know that there are also humongous variants of the same chocolate bunny? In fact, not just one, but many attempts have been made to break the Guinness World Record for the “Largest Rabbit Made of Chocolate”! The current titleholder is Equipe da Casa do Chocolate (Portuguese for “The House of the Chocolate”), a Brazilian chocolate manufacturer located at Shopping Uberaba, in Uberaba, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Their team consisted of nine professionals who worked on the 4,245.5-kilogram sculpture for eight consecutive days. The chocolate rabbit stood tall at 4.52 meters, was 2.11 meters wide, and 1.76 meters long.
Aside from achieving this feat, the same Brazilian chocolate company achieved the Guinness World Record for the “Largest Chocolate Sculpture” just a little over a year later on April 1, 2018. The sculpture, which was in the form of a house and some furniture, weighed more than twice as much as the chocolate bunny at 10,488 kilograms.
Anyway, speaking of rabbits and bunnies…while you may have missed the chance to visit Brazil and check out the largest chocolate bunny for yourself, you CAN indulge in our bunny-themed items, Bunnylicious and Hoppylicious! Both products include plush bunnies, a wide variety of chocolates and lollies, and even a complimentary card!
FACT #2: All Things Chupa Chups
While they’re technically not considered to be chocolate, lollies are the next best things and Spanish brand Chupa Chups has been out there to prove so for the last 63 years—yup! Your fave lolly brand has been in existence for as long as Madonna and Ellen DeGeneres! With the catchy name derived from the Spanish word chupar, which means “to suck,” and the iconic logo attributed to the surrealist artist Salvador Dalí, Chupa Chups comes in over a hundred different flavours so you’re sure to find something that tickles your fancy! Some fan favourites include Watermelon, Cola, Strawberries & Cream, and Choco Vanilla. What’s yours?
Did this fact have you craving for some Chupa Chups? Well, today must be your lucky day because we’ve actually got a lot of bouquets and hampers containing the beloved lolly—most notably our Posylicious and Chupalicious Chupa Chup Bouquet! Posylicious is a delightful bouquet of 30 Chupa Chups that’s wrapped just like your typical flower bouquet (it even comes with a pretty bow!), while the Chupalicious Bouquet, on the other hand, comes in three colour schemes and with 18 Chupa Chups.
Oh, and by the way, aside from sharing the same birth year, did you know that the pop diva, Madonna, was even one of Chupa Chups’ celebrity endorsers?
FACT #3: All Things Chocolate and Wine
Though it’s been quite some time past the month of love, we don’t blame you if you’re still pairing wine and chocolate on a regular basis! On their own, both are delicious, and even more so when consumed together. One can even argue that it’s a healthy pairing because technically, red wine is derived from fermented grapes while chocolate is from the cacao bean. With the two being by-products of plants, not only will you be having a splendid (and might we add, luxurious!) time, but your body will also surely obtain different health benefits in the form of antioxidants.
Polyphenols, for example, are an antioxidant found in red wine. This particular polyphenol is called resveratrol and is beneficial in preventing blood vessel damage, lowering the levels of bad cholesterols, and avoiding blood clots. As for chocolates, most varieties (especially dark chocolate, as it is the least processed) offer another type of polyphenol called flavonoids. A professor at Harvard Medical School has recently presented new findings that show a high intake of a flavonoid subclass, flavanols, can lead to improved circulation, lower blood pressure and reduced production of fatty plaques.
Isn't it amazing how the food you enjoy on a regular basis is not only good for your taste buds but also for your health? As it turns out, chocolate and wine can be just as beneficial to your health as medication. Well, that certainly calls for a celebration, and what better way to do so than by ordering either an Indulgencelicious or Winealicious?
Both products are presented in a way that screams splendour and all the finer things in life. With Indulgencelicious, you’ll be getting a bottle of Brown Brothers Sparkling Moscato and an assortment of chocolates, all delicately placed in a keepsake timber box with a persplex lid and adorned with a beautiful bow. On the contrary, if you opt to get Winealicious, you’d likewise get a selection of chocolates, but instead of the Moscato, you could choose from either of the four Yellow Tail liquors available: Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, or Sauvignon Blanc.
Not a fan of wine? Then head onto our Alcohol Bouquets section and scroll through other available options.
And of course, though, despite the mentioned health benefits, it goes without saying that both wine and chocolate should still be consumed in moderation.
FACT #4: All Things Tim Tams
Everyone, give it up for one of Australia’s greatest pride in the food industry: Arnott’s Tim Tam!
In the country, it is an unspoken rule that a packet of Tim Tams should be present in every household. As a matter of fact, 52% of Australian households have been known to stock these biscuits in their pantry! What makes the humble packet of chocolate-coated biscuits so popular? The answer might lie with its irresistibility: at 130 calories per pack and over eight packets sold every hour around the clock on Amazon according to recent estimates (and that's just one online retailer!), this snack is hard for any sweet tooth not to love. Even the global icon Taylor Swift has tweeted about how Tim Tams have changed her life!
Among the many flavours, salted caramel has been one of their most popular since it was created in 2010 and released the following year to customers' delight. Alongside classics for morning tea time or dunking into coffee while on break from work, they have also come up with some creative concoctions, such as raspberry white choc made famous by renowned Australian chef Adriano Zumbo. Some relatively new creations are likewise as follows: chocolate mint gelato (released in partnership with Gelato Messina), black forest flavour inspired by German dessert Black Forest cake; and coconut lychee ice cream which will surely be an instant favourite among those who enjoy tropical fruits!
However, if you’re a faithful fan of the original Tim Tams, then you’d be ecstatic to know that our box of Timmylicious contains ten Original Bites AND five Belgian Milk Chocolate Stars! Don’t just drool there, click the link and go order!
