Goodbye, 2020, and hello, 2021! Welcome to Australia, wherein the first month is always welcomed by a blast of the summer heat. We’re currently experiencing the hottest season of the year, so put away any thick clothing and steamy dishes! Bask in the sunshine and don your summer dresses or t-shirts—perhaps even your swimsuits if you plan to go swimming. And as for what to eat? Leave that to us. In our first blog for the new year, we’ll help you beat the heat with the fruity Summer Delights that we’ve prepared just for you!
No other fruit screams summer like mango does—and no, not even watermelons come close. The start of summer is likewise marked by the beginning of the mango season, so allow us to let this be the start of our list, too.
Imagine this: a hot day by the pool with some family and friends. You might be splashing water and goofing around, or perhaps just lying on your back, trying to get the perfect tan. Either way, the sun will eventually be hard to ignore, and you’ll be needing some refreshments ASAP. What else could be better than a mango mojito? Grab a mango or two, a few slices of lime, mint, sugar, and maple syrup. Pop them in the blender and voila! You’ve got the ultimate zesty drink that makes you feel as though you’re at the beach.
If you’re one of the people who are working hard to achieve their body goals just in time for summer, then surely you won’t want to break the routine by eating something sweet… Or do you? Well, to be fair, desserts are pretty hard to resist, but the good news is that you could still satisfy your cravings while staying fit and healthy by opting for a fruit salad! Whether you want something sweet or sour (or maybe even the combination of both!), you can quickly make a superb salad, be it for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or even snack time. Furthermore, what’s good about fruit salads is that there’s no right or wrong way to make them. Just toss your fruits of choice into a large bowl, and you’ll be good to go.
When life gives you lemons, turn them into curd and alternate them with syrupy blueberries and whipped cream in tall glasses for the parfait (get the pun? Parfait is French for perfect!) no-bake dessert! If you’re also feeling a little extra, sprinkle some crushed gingernuts and further garnish it with mint leaves for an added cool effect. Leave it in the fridge for at least an hour to chill.
Additionally, if blueberries don’t particularly tickle your tastebuds, you can go for similar fruits like strawberries and cranberries.
Did you know that we Australians are among the biggest avocado consumers in the world, with more than 3 kilos consumed by a person per year on average? If this holds true for you and/or your household, then skip the store-bought, sugar-loaded variants and make your own avocado ice blocks at home! Simply boil water with sugar, add lime juice to mashed avocados, and combine all the ingredients. The concoction is now ready to be put in ice moulds and chilled. Serve after a few hours and enjoy! Like every other dessert on our list, this is a healthy alternative to other sugar-based desserts if you’re looking to stay fit and maintain a lean figure.
Have you tried making any of these desserts? If not, would you give it a go? Feel free to share your experiences and other healthy summer delights on the comment section!Comments will be approved before showing up.
